SYSTECODE is a system of accreditation according to the International Code for Cork Stopper Manufacturing Practice; it was started in 2000 with the successful certification of 167 companies from the global cork industry. Cork Mark is the only guarantee of cork products   To offer the consumer unmistakable guarantees about the quality and origin of cork, the Confédération Européenne du Liège (C. E. Liège) together with the European Forestry Comission – Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has created the Cork Mark - the international symbol used to identify products made of cork. The use of this mark has some rules and also need a CELiège permission.

a new resolution
concerning
cork products
 
The Resolution ResAP(2004)2 applies only to the cork part of cork stoppers and any other cork materials or articles whose main component is manufactured cork which, in the finished product state, is intended to come into contact with or is placed in contact with foodstuffs. The resolution has some specifications such as: cork stoppers should be manufactured in accordance with the International Code of Cork Stoppers Manufacturing Practice, drawn up by the C.E. Liège.

Cork Industry, trade and wine producers reinforce activities in favour of wine
The European Cork Confederation (CELiège) promotes once again a meeting of the “Natural Cork User Group” that will be held on the 19th May, at the London International Wine and Spirits Fair (LWSTF), in London.
Cork Sales Seen Increasing in 2004
Despite increasing competition from alternative closures including wine boxes, the French Cork Federation expects sales of natural cork to rise from 16 billion units in 2003 to 17-18 billion this year.

Consumers still prefer cork to screw tops
In a blind taste test conducted by researchers at Oregon State University, wine drinkers couldn't tell the difference in the taste of the same wine, whether bottled with natural cork, synthetic or screw-top. Although when they were questioned about purchasing a merlot, consumers said they prefered a wine seal with natural cork and they were willing to pay more for it.
